This neighborhood of approximately 580 homes has a relaxed ambiance. It was designed with a touch of Mediterranean flair in the region’s contemporary Florida style in order to blend seamlessly into a scenic setting of lush shrubbery and mature palms. Buyers can select between single-family homes and maintenance-free villas. Residences offer a variety of scenic vistas, including golf course views and private preserve panoramas.
While not officially a golf community, Sawgrass seems like one because nine holes of the Waterford Golf Course are located in the northern sections of the community. The 27-hole championship course was designed by the famous links architect Ted McAnlis. Additionally, Sawgrass borders the Capri Isles Golf Club, a semi-private course that is one of the most established ones in the city. This results in many of the homes having desirable views of lakes, undulating hills and fairways. As such, residents benefit from excellent scenery without having to carry the expense of living in a gated golf community.
Homeowners who are interested in playing an occasional round of golf have the option of paying for singular rounds at Waterford. Residents can even take their own golf carts up Edmonton Road. More serious golfers can sign up for full memberships at Capri Isles or nearby Calusa Lakes Golf Club.
The community was started in 1997, construction ceased in 2006, and it continued in 2010. As such, home styles reflect the year in which they were built, but most feature barrel-tile roofs, stucco walls, high ceilings and open floor plans that encompass between 1,900 to 3,400 square feet. Homeowner dues for Sawgrass cover social membership for the clubhouse, fees for the guard at the main entrance, and maintenance costs for all common areas, lakes and preserves. The clubhouse amenities include a fitness center, large activity room, swimming pool and tennis court.
While some of the residents only live here seasonally, the majority of them stay at Sawgrass all year long, so the community always has a lively feel.
